The distribution of laptops and scholarships among the students and many other incentives are some of the examples of the Punjab government’s youth-specific initiatives for their development and progress.

Unveiling the policy before a huge gathering of youngsters hailing from academic, professional and business institutions at Alhamra Cultural Complex, the chief minister said: “Under the Youth package, interest-free loans of Rs3 billion will be given to the skilled but jobless youth of Punjab who can avail the opportunity on soft terms so that they can stand on their own feet using their talent,” adding that it would benefit 70,000 families in the province.

Amidst thunderous applause, the chief minister announced that the Punjab government would provide latest laptops worth Rs 12 billion to 300,000 talented students. He said a special age relaxation of three years and 33 per cent quota would be reserved for the women in the government jobs.

As per the CM’s announcement, 500 female university students will get scholarship, while an amount of Rs 2 billion will be allocated for providing loans on soft terms and conditions under the Women Development Programme.

As per the Youth Policy, as many as 50,000 male and female students get a four-month internship opportunity through public-private partnership. Each candidate will be given a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000, for which the government has allocated one billion rupees. Furthermore, 25,000 students would be given scholarships for higher education this year.

The Sports Development Fund is being established with a sum of two billion rupees for the promotion of sports in the province, the policy says. Modern youth hostels will also be set up in every district.
